PANAJI: An important initiative to improve mental health care services in Goa’s educational settings has been announced by the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (GSCPCR). This action, which focuses on enhancing care for kids in need of special protection, is consistent with the Commission’s obligation to uphold the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Commission has recommended expanding discipline degrees within counseling services because it has determined that there is an urgent need for a larger and more qualified pool of mental health professionals in schools.
In particular, it is recommended that the Goa Educational Development Corporation revise its program to incorporate certifications like wellness counselling and to lessen the amount of prior experience needed. This is anticipated to result in a sharp rise in the number of qualified practitioners readily available to assist students with their mental health needs.
