Panaji: The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has demanded ban on the import of Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesh idols from Karnataka and Maharashtra into the State.
HJS said that it has been observed that in spite of the government imposing a ban on the import and the sale of PoP Ganesh idols in the state of Goa in the last few years, the import from other states and sale of PoP idols in the state of Goa continues unabated making this ban ineffective.
“We request the government to effectively execute and enforce the ban in true spirit thus making Goa free of PoP Ganesh idols,” HJS said.
The appeal has been made by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) through a memorandum submitted to North Goa Collector, Dr. Sneha Gitte (IAS). The HJS delegation was comprised of Jang Bahadur Chowhan of Janahit Samiti, Shushant Dalvi and Raj Borkar of HJS and Mahesh Prabhu of Sanatan Sanstha.
The HJS memorandum further appealed to the government to promote environment-friendly Ganesh idols by encouraging Ganesh idol makers who prepare Ganesh idols of Shadu clay.
“The government should ensure that after Ganeshotsav, Ganesh idols should be immersed in flowing water. Also, the appeal was made to form a task force comprising members of officials from the Environment Department, State Pollution Control Board, Excise, Commercial Tax Department and the Police to monitor the import and sale of PoP idols in the state,” it said.
Appeal to stop the insult to the National Flag during Independence Day
The HJS has appealed through a separate memorandum to the North Goa Collector Dr. Sneha Gitte (IAS) to stop the insult to the National Flag during Independence Day. In this regard, the appeal was made to the Government to constitute Action Committees to stop the desecration of the National Flag, to initiate action on the production and sale of national flags made up of plastic and to give instructions to all schools to implement the activity ‘Respect the National Flag!’.
