PANAJI: BJP Goa State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade today has termed Congress South Goa Candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes as a person of double standards.
Capt Viriato Fernandes sparked a controversy on Monday when he said the Constitution was forcefully imposed on Goans and demanded dual citizenship.
“This is not the first time that Capt Viriato has spoken such things, earlier on August 15, he had refused to hoist Indian Flag at St Jacinto island. He even was trying to justify remarks made against Shivaji Maharaj by one father,” said Tanavade
He further questioned whether it is not an insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar? Isn’t this an insult to the Constitution?.
“Viriato’s views expressed in his campaign speech suggest that he has complete disregard for the Constitution which is the very foundation of democracy and sovereignty of our nation,” he added.
Tanavade said that through the means of this complaint, we at Bharatiya Janata Party, Goa Pradesh have demanded prompt intervention in the matter.
“The speech suggests that he has complete disregard for the Constitution of India which is the very foundation of this glorious democracy and sovereignty of our nation,” said Tanavade.
Tanvade has said that the Constitution of India is a sacred guiding light that defines the power of pluralism, sovereignty, brotherhood and unity.
“The views expressed by the said Captain Viriato are unbecoming of a so-called “war-veteran” and stink of anti-national as well as divisive mentality which is detrimental to the democratic and social fabric of our nation,” he said.
Tanavade said that this speech clearly violates the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections of 2024 by spewing hate speech against the holy Constitution of India.
“The Indian Election Commission ought to give this some serious consideration. As a result, it is only fitting that the Election Commission of India strongly condemns this hate speech and withdraws Captain Viriato Fernandes’ candidacy,” he added.
