Calangute: Calangute Police have registered a case against four individuals, including one unidentified person, for allegedly assaulting and threatening a taxi driver over a guest pickup dispute near Umtawada.
The incident occurred on July 27 at around 11:30 AM in front of Kajal Fast Food, Umtawada, Calangute, Bardez. According to the complaint filed by Sonu Parmatma Ojha, a native of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and currently residing in Virdi-Sakhlim, the accused persons—Ashok Rathod, Sudhir Polji, Pundalik Polji alias Bablu, and one unidentified individual—wrongfully restrained him while he was proceeding with his taxi (Reg. No. GA-03-V-7486) along with a guest.
Ojha alleged that the group abused and physically assaulted him, further threatening him over picking up a guest from a hotel. The altercation is reportedly linked to ongoing tensions between local taxi operators over guest pickups and route allocations.
Based on the complaint, Calangute Police registered an offence on July 27 at 3:53 PM under relevant sections of law. Head Constable Prashant Chopdekar is conducting the investigation.
