PERNEM: Chaos was witnessed outside MLA Pravin Arlekar’s residence as Goa Miles drivers and local taxi operators clashed over fare rates.
Local taxi operators demand Goa Miles should adhere to gazetted rates.
“Goa Miles should adhere to gazetted rates. They should increase their fares at par with our local taxis, it unfair, we are losing business,” said a cab operator.
The local cabbies expressed their frustration and accused the Goa Miles drivers of disrupting their business.
They claimed that Goa Miles drivers were making direct deals with tourists without prior bookings and parking their taxis on the roadside, thereby violating the rules.
Local taxi operators alleged that Goa Miles drivers were picking up and dropping tourists at hotels directly from the airport, even when bookings had ended. They claimed that this practice was negatively impacting their business.
MLA Pravin Arlekar demanded the removal of the GoaMiles counter at MIA, cites low rates are harming local taxi operators.
“GoaMiles counter at MIA should be removed. Uniform rates should be maintained and no airport counter for GoaMiles,” said Arlekar.
He also said that Goa Miles rates are lowest compared to others and hence our local TaxiOperators are suffering.
“All the rates should be made equal. GoaMiles is app-based, they should not have a counter at the airport,” he added.
