PANAJI: The Town and Country Planning (TCP) office has revoked the technical clearance previously granted to a proposed controversial nightclub in the area, marking a significant victory for the villagers of Assagao.
This ruling is in reaction to the nightclub’s purportedly unauthorized usage of the building.
The withdrawal was announced by Deputy Town Planner Zaidev Aldonkar, who stated that there had been a violation of the original permission to operate a restaurant.
Aldonkar claims that on April 20, the Assagao panchayat asked for a joint site inspection in order to examine regularizing the restaurant.
The finding of unauthorized activity occurring at the premises made this inspection necessary.
The Assagao-Badem Citizen’s Action Committee (ABCAC) also made a representation to the TCP department regarding M/s DNG Entertainment’s nightclub “Rumba.”
The committee brought to light that the promoters of nightclubs were trying to obtain NOCs from different departments in order to obtain Assagao panchayat approval.
At the TCP Board’s 201st meeting, it was decided that the proper legal action would be taken if it was discovered that the original approval had been broken and the structure’s use had changed without permission.
Aldonkar thus verified that the formal withdrawal of the technical clearance order had occurred.
Assagao’s residents, united under the ABCAC banner, have been vehemently opposing the nightclub’s construction in their neighbourhood.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant met with ABCAC members on Monday and gave them the assurance that the nightclub would not be permitted to open in the village.
