CANACONA: Tenant verification is going on in full swing at Canacona, with over 1533 tenants verified their antecedents this year till Thursday.
The rush of tenants, consisting mostly of migrants employed as daily wage workers and others, has made a big queue at Canacona police station since the beginning of this week.
According to police sources, several migrant workers who stay in rented premises of the locals have queued up to file their prescribed form for verification of their tenancy locally.
In most other cases, several non-residents who occupy rented houses also rushed up to submit their tenant verification forms alongwith their local identifications (ID’s).
Canacona police sources informed that the tenants verification was going on but at snail’s pace in and since January month, a total of 1533 tenant verifications have been completed in Canacona. ‘The same has been picked-up only this week’, state the police source.
Since, chief Minister dr. Pramod Sawant announced a hefty fine of Rs.10,000/- on the house owners if their tenants have not completed their verifications by 10th of Oct ‘2024, it is learnt that house owners themselves pressurizing their tenants has led to a rush of people making it to the police station.
Incidentally, Canacona also accepted Tenant Verification forms at the police out-posts at Agonda and Polem , easing the pressure at Canacona police station.
