Panaji: Union Minister Shripad Naik met with a tragic accident last night near Yellapur in Karnataka in which he lost his wife Vijaya Naik and his assistant Deepak Ghume.
The prime reason is being said that the driver Suraj Naik was overtaking another vehicles and then is when his car turned turtle and all five occupants of the car including PSO Tukaram Patil were injured.
Eyewitnesses said that the Minister and his wife were sitting on the middle row while PSO was in front with driver. Deepak Ghume was in the last row.
Shortcut to Gokarna
As per Karwar MLA Rupali Naik, the minister and wife performed Pooja ta Gante Ganpati at Yellapur in Uttar Kannada during the day and left for Gokarna at 7 pm.
“Instead of taking the main road they took the short cut to Gokarna, which shortens the distance by 28 kilometers,” she said.
She said the short cut road is a Ghat section and some road work is also going on.
“It is a ghat section and a complete jungle area. While overtaking the car turned turtle,” she said.
Diabetic driver
Sources now say that the driver Suraj Naik is diabetic and has been driving continuously for past three to four days.
“Maybe the driver felt asleep while driving,” eyewitnesses said.
Question arises is if the driver was diabetic why did the minister take the risk?
Escort vehicle
Another issue is about escort vehicle. If there is an escort vehicle there is very little chance of accident of the minister’s car.
The escort car’s job is to clear the traffic for the minister’s vehicle but nobody know what happened in this case.
Keeping all three reasons in mind, one has to wonder why the minister took the risk of travelling at night through a thick forest. Secondly, why a diabetic driver without proper sleep was driving the vehicle at night? Lastly, less spoken about the escort vehicle the better as it failed to do its job.
