VASCO: The Vasco RTO has earned revenue of as much as Rs 60 lakhs in the 2022 calendar year on fancy VIP registration numbers
Vasco RTO, Additional Director of Transport Rajesh Naik said that in the calendar year 2022, a total of 5399 vehicles, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers and other types, have been registered with the Vasco Transport Department.
“Among them, 160 two-wheeler and four-wheeler owners have taken fancy numbers for their vehicles earning the Vasco RTO a total of Rs 66, 59,000 lakh 59 thousand. This year, in the first month of January 2023, 20 people have taken fancy numbers, and for this, 65,000 have been deposited with the transport department,” said Naik.
“Some people in Goa consider the old number as lucky and take the same number. Some choose their own parents, children’s birthday, or wedding date. Some take VIP numbers. Some numbers are 1111, 7777, 1234 etc.,” said Naik.
“In the calendar year 2021, a total of 108 people took the preferred number from new vehicle registration in Vasco. A total of Rs 33,24,000 was paid as a fee for that. Compared to this, in 2022, more charges of Rs. 27 35,000 have been collected for the preferred number. A total of 5399 new vehicles was registered in 2022,” he said.
He said that this includes 3437 two-wheelers, 1518 four-wheelers, 218 taxis and 226 other vehicles. Preferred number takers include two-wheeler and four-wheeler owners. In 2021, 108 people took the preferred number. Last year 160 people took the preferred number.
