New Delhi: In the early hours of May 7, 2025, India launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted military strike against nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, predominantly Hindu tourists. The Indian Armed Forces executed the mission with precision, utilizing Rafale jets armed with SCALP missiles and AASM Hammer bombs, all while adhering to strict protocols to avoid civilian casualties and not entering Pakistani airspace .Wikipedia+1New York Post+1Wikipedia+1Wikipedia+1
The operation has been met with widespread support from across India, including the sports community. Boxer Gaurav Bidhuri expressed his admiration for the Indian Army’s efforts, stating, “While we were asleep in our homes, our Indian Army was out there executing Operation Sindoor. And to all those who kept shouting, ‘Modi ji, attack! Why aren’t you attacking?’ — this is your clear answer.” He emphasized the meticulous planning and strategic precision involved in the operation, highlighting that it was a message to those who dare to attack India: “your actions will not go unanswered. Jai Hind!”
Wrestling icon and Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia, who lost his brother in the Pahalgam attack, also lauded the Army’s actions. He remarked, “I am immensely proud of our Indian Army. They have honored the death of my brother with justice, courage, and precision.” Punia stressed the importance of national unity, stating, “On matters of national security, the country must speak in one voice.”
Other sports personalities, including boxer Vijender Singh, badminton star Saina Nehwal, and former cricketer Suresh Raina, took to social media to express their support, posting “Jai Hind” to their millions of followers.
The Defence Ministry confirmed that Operation Sindoor was conducted after extensive intelligence gathering, with a strategic intent to eliminate terror infrastructure without escalating into direct military confrontation. Crucially, no Pakistani army facilities or civilians were harmed during the strikes — a decision made to signal restraint even while asserting strength.
In a show of solidarity, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar posted on Instagram, “Fearless in unity. Boundless in strength. India’s shield is her people. There’s no room for terrorism in this world. We’re ONE TEAM!”
The operation has not only garnered support from the sports community but has also sparked a wave of nationalistic pride across the country, with hashtags like #OperationSindoor and #JaiHind trending on social media platforms.
