PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Friday claimed that the present budget would be the last budget of the BJP government in Goa, asserting that people of the state will not give the party another opportunity to govern.
Addressing the media in Panaji, Alemao said that the people of Goa will “show the door” to the BJP for what he described as arrogance, anti-people projects and alleged attacks on democracy.
He accused the government of failing to control borrowings and public debt, stating that it continues to make hollow promises while spending taxpayers’ money on events for commissions.
Alemao said the government should focus on tackling corruption at the ministerial and administrative levels, addressing land conversions under Section 39A, shifting casinos, and controlling public borrowing to reduce the state’s debt burden.
The opposition leader also said that if the Congress returns to power, it will prioritise employment generation in the industry and service sectors, promote skill-based education and employability, improve ease of doing business and ease of citizen services, and focus on environmental protection and preservation.
Alemao further alleged that a minister in the BJP cabinet had openly threatened to paralyse the capital city by bringing 40,000 people from Sattari. He criticised Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for remaining silent on such statements while filing FIRs against common citizens protesting for their rights.
“This clearly shows how the state cabinet is functioning and how law and order has collapsed in the state,” Alemao added.
