VASCO: Thousands of revellers from across Mormugao Taluka thronged the streets of Swatantra Path in Vasco to witness the colourful Carnival parade in Vasco on Monday evening.
The Chief Guest, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho, flagged off the Vasco Carnival parade along with Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar in the presence of Carnival committee Leo Rodrigues and other committee members.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Guest, Minster Mauvin Godinho, said that Carnival was a festival of Fun, Frolick and merry-making.
“Everyone must make the most of the Carnival festivities and enjoy every moment within limits and in discipline so that things don’t go out of control. Goans are good entertainers, and they love to entertain people, and the whole world comes to Goa because of this character of ours. Goans are fun-loving people and everyone is all smiles here, which by itself is a message that Goans love to love life Happily,” said Godinho.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said that Carnival is a festival to spread communal Harmony and to make merry.
“We have seen that there is a mad rush today because the Carnival is back in its original form after a gap of two years amidst the Covid Pandemic. I appeal to all to enjoy the Carnival to the fullest and take back the message of living a happy life at all costs,” said Salkar.
Vasco Carnival Committee chairman Leo Rodrigues said that people across all religions had participated in the Vasco Carnival festivities and made the program a grand success.
“Carnival is a festival that gives us happiness, and it is one of the most awaited functions in the year. I appeal to all the people to stay united, take back and adopt some strong messages displayed through Musical floats and live in inter-religious Harmony,” said Rodrigues.
The streets along the Swatantra Path were brightly decorated as several floats, some with live bands, paraded along the streets following the first float carrying King Momo and Carnival Queen on the streets spreading the message of Fun, Frolic and Merry making.
The King and the Queen were seen waving hands to the hundreds of revellers, comprising locals and tourists on the 1.5 km stretch of the jam-packed Swatantra Path
A Huge stage was set up near the Vasco Railway station for the Chief Guests to view the floats parading, some with a traditional, social and cultural message highlighting the rich traditional and cultural history of Goa.
After the float parade, there was a performance by the musical band NH 17 at a stage that was set up outside the Municipality building. A huge police force was deployed to avoid any law and order situation and to control the crowd of people, some of who came onto the roads by jumping off the barricade to video-shoot the floats while some tourists tried to take Selfies with clowns and other artists to post on social media signifying that they were a part of Carnival Festivities in Goa.
The floats included Local Kunbi dances, dance academy floats, floats with messages from the Agriculture department, Police department and the Navy, while some floats Pavsacho Purument, the story of Goan Bakers and diet “Pao”, the efforts of traditional Fishermen and others displayed messages of ” Say no to Drink and Drive”.
A total of 57 floats in different categories, including clubs and institutions (19), traditional (11), clown and jokers (11), fun and junk car (7), family (07) and sponsors (02 ) took part in the Vasco Carnival float parade depicting various themes and messages while highlighting the Goan culture and tradition.
