PONDA: Bagayats (Kulagar) at Ponda are in trouble as choked nullah overflows with plastic . The complainant wants Panchayat to save Kulagar from plastic dumps. Heaps of plastic garbage spread in Kulagar. If plastic continues to remain in Kulagar, it will damage the tree.
Philip Dias, the villager from Curti-Khandepar residing near upper Bazaar Ponda, complained that his Bagayat (Kulagar) is flooded with a truck load of plastic as the nullah passes by side of Bagayat is choked with garbage at Bazzar Mallal – Curti Ponda.
He said he wanted Panchayat to save his Kulagar from plastic. Heaps of plastic garbage spread in Kulagar, and he is worried about trees planted by him.
Senior Citizen Philip Dias said people upstream of the nullah had become a dumping ground for household waste and plastic; thus, it is choked. During heavy rain, nullah overflows and floating plastic falls into his Kulagar (Bagayat); and therefore, he is facing this problem.
He and his wife had cultivated Bagayat with hard work, and that water overflows into his Bagayat.
He said since the past two years, he has been facing this problem. He is unemployed and depends on Kulagar for his livelihood. He urged Curti Khandepar Panchayat to clean his nullah. He said recently, Curti ZP Member Priya Chari inspected the Kulagar. Some labourers collected garbage into bags. However, heaps of waste need to be cleared to save Kulagar.
