CANACONA: Three milking buffaloes were electrocuted while grazing after a live-electricity wire snapped in the abandoned fields behind the Petrol Pump at Gulem in Canacona.
The three buffaloes belonging to one Davoo Zore were not found and have been missing for the last 4 days, as the searches led to the discovery of Carcasses of all three Buffaloes lying highly decomposed in the thick vegetation behind the Gulem Petrol Pump besides an electricity wire lying on the ground snapped from a nearby pole in the area.
Parents of the Zore family noticed the three carcasses of their missing buffaloes during the massive search the family launched on Sunday, and accordingly immediately informed the Electricity Office and Police and also alerted the Animal Husbandry office on Monday.
The Electricity staff and Policemen came on Monday morning and took control of the situation and according to electricity sources, the snapped wires were from the distribution supply to two agriculture pumps, which are not in use during the rains and they didn’t come to the notice of anyone till the dead buffaloes were discovered.
Zore family said, that with the electrocution of their three milking buffaloes, their only source of livelihood is gone forever. ‘Our entire family’s livelihood is fully dependent on these buffaloes, one is 6 years old and two others were 4 years of age and they were our only source of income sustaining our family! What do we do now? asked an almost weeping elder of the Zore family.
Davoo Zore, said, ‘Each of the buffaloes were giving 4-5 litre of milk, and if the same were to be purchased, their rates are quoted 30-35 thousand rupees. With our income already gone forever, how can we purchase such a huge costing buffalo again? As this is our only occupation, none of our family members are in government jobs or even going for jobs elsewhere. We used to supply milk to the dairy and to some of our regular customers. We request assistance from the government or some sources for our livelihood’.
