CANACONA: In an exclusive all-women’s meet, Agonda panchayat had its first-ever Mahila GramSabha on Tuesday where the women members sought enhancement of Rs.1500/- received by women under the Griha Aadhar scheme.
‘It’s been some years now, and the government though sometimes delays occur is providing us with Rs.1500/- only as Griha Aadhar, which helps a lot to tide over escalating day-to-day costs in running our households. We request our government to increase this amount of Rs.1500/- paid to us as Griha Aadhar’, pleaded the women at the meeting with the Sarpanch, who assured to inform the government about the women’s concern and demand.
Some women members also asked the sarpanch to felicitate their groups functioning under Self Help Groups, a separate office to store their things and hold monthly meetings. Presently they hold such meetings in some members’ houses.
Women members stating under the Central govt schemes such as Vishwa Karma, besides Abba Card (Health Card), are registered and kept whereas no benefits are extended to the women on the strength of those cards.
Many women state that ST, and SC women get so many other benefits that can also be extended to the General category of women.
Earlier, the first–ever Mahila Sabha was inaugurated at the hands of Canacona BDO Savio Coutinho as Sarpanch Prettal Fernandes presented a flower bouquet in her welcome address.
Dr. Classy Furtado and Dr. Mamta Naik Bolnekar in a PowerPoint presentation delivered a talk on a Healthy Life-style and stated the health of women who are the backbone of a family and explained the importance of a balanced diet in their daily food supplement.
Social Welfare (Field Worker) Priyanka Velip, Fisheries Surveyor –Devanand Lone, Sagar Mitra Ashish Velip explained the various schemes and respective procedures to avail benefits for the same.
Besides Sarpanch Prettal Fernandes, Dy. Sarpanch Karuna Phaldessai, Panch Fatima Rodrigues and Panchayat Secretary Amol K Naik Gaonkar also attended and were present in the first-ever Mahila Gramsabha of Agonda VP.
Incidentally, Agonda VP is holding yet another first Bal Gramsabha (Children’s meeting) on Wednesday evening.
