MAPUSA: The body of a 61-year-old man from Tivim, who was suspected to have drowned while fishing near St. Christopher’s Church in Bardez, was recovered from the water on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Narendra Sawant. According to sources, Sawant had gone fishing on Sunday evening but did not return home, raising concern among family members and locals.
His fishing rod was later discovered abandoned near the riverside, leading to suspicion that he may have fallen into the water.
Following reports of the incident, personnel from the Mapusa Fire and Emergency Services launched a search operation on Sunday evening. However, despite efforts, the team was unable to trace him that night.
The search resumed on Monday morning, during which Sawant’s body was located and recovered from the river.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
