BENAULIM: The Department of Tourism, in coordination with law enforcement authorities, conducted an enforcement drive across identified beach stretches to ensure safety, discipline and compliance with regulatory norms.
The drive was led by Rodlin Mascarenhas, Assistant Director, Department of Tourism.
During the operation, a hawker, Mohammad Kareem Shaikh, was found operating in violation of prescribed norms and was handed over to the Tourist Police for further action. Police said the individual paid a fine of ₹5,000 as per applicable provisions.
Officials also removed an unauthorised party setup outside the Ouzo private shack, with the assistance of the Tourist Police, restoring order and regulatory compliance.
As part of the same drive, unauthorised advertisement materials were identified and removed. Coca-Cola advertisement flags were taken down from beach areas at Mobor (Cavelossim), Khandivaddo (Cavelossim) and Fatradea (Varca).
Advertisement flags displayed at Mobor Cavelossim and Khandivaddo beaches were also removed to ensure conformity with beach management and advertising regulations.
Director of Tourism Kedar Naik said the department remains committed to maintaining Goa’s beaches as safe, clean and well-regulated public spaces. “Such enforcement drives, undertaken in close coordination with the Tourist Police and other authorities, are essential to uphold discipline, prevent unauthorised activities and promote responsible tourism across the state,” he said.
The Department of Tourism will continue to conduct regular inspections and enforcement drives across coastal and tourist areas to ensure compliance with established norms and to safeguard the overall visitor experience in Goa.
