PANAJI: Despite protests and petitions against Sunburn’s hosting in Dhargalim, the Tourism Department has given the promoters in-principle permission to hold the festival. On November 13, Sunburn’s organizer, Spacebound We blabs Pvt Ltd, submitted the application for authorization.
Permission for new tourism services in Goa was granted based on the Empowered Committee’s recommendations.
The clearance comes ten days after the Dhargal panchayat gave conditional permission to hold the event on Delta Corp.’s private land on December 2. Additionally, the license is given despite a petition to revoke the permissions for the event in Dhargal still pending before the Bombay High Court in Goa.
Officials from the tourism department verified that the organizers had received consent in principle after submitting that the panchayat had already given its approval.
Tickets for the event were already being sold when Spacebound Web Labs Pvt Ltd announced the revised location and dates well in advance of the permissions being obtained.
Some locals are still opposed to organizing the event, despite the local panchyat’s approval.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Department listed a number of requirements for the Sunburn event. There is a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,99,65,000 in addition to the non-refundable event costs of Rs 1,92,50,000 plus GST of Rs 34,65,000. Processing costs are also non-refundable.
Before final clearance can be given, organizers must pay the needed fees and get the required NOCs and licenses from the appropriate authorities.
