PANAJI:Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude on Friday condemned certain individuals within the tribal community of Goa who, according to him, exploit their own people for personal gains. The tribal community faces threats from its own people,
Speaking at a programme organised by the United Tribal Associations’ Alliance (UTAA) in Panaji to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Gaude urged youth not to fall prey to such leaders.
He expressed his concern over the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Gaurav Yatra, organised by the government, pointing out that some people were offering Rs 1000 to youth to participate in the event, including a bike rally.
He claimed that Munda, who opposed the British, brought people together in an era before contemporary technology. He urged the Goan tribal group to unite, regretting that some people were acting more for their personal gain than for the benefit of the community.
He went on to advise the youth not to be duped by those who want to silence the voice of tribal people, saying, “We should follow Birsa Munda and work on his ideas.”
Working President Vishawas Gaude, former minister and UTAA president Prakash Velip, and other community leaders also attended the ceremony.
