VASCO: A truck driver was booked by Vasco police after his vehicle allegedly rammed into a high-tension electricity pole at Chicalim, causing extensive damage to the power distribution network and disrupting electricity supply in the area.
According to a complaint lodged by Vikram Karekar, assistant engineer of Electricity Department Sub-Division II, Vasco, the incident occurred on April 17 at around 6.30 am when accused Sunil Kumar Rai, a resident of Behala, Kolkata, was driving a trolley vehicle from Cortalim towards Vasco.
Police said that upon reaching near Chicalim, the driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle and crashed into a high-tension electricity pole. Due to the impact, an 11-metre-long RS joint pole along with associated hardware and HT conductors snapped, while the low-tension distribution network in the area also suffered major damage.
Electricity department officials stated that the damage caused losses estimated at around Rs 2.5 lakh and also led to disruption of power supply in the locality.
Based on the complaint, Vasco police registered a case under Sections 281 and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
Further investigation is being carried out by Head Constable Ashish Naik of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
