MAPUSA: A truck driver from Maharashtra has been booked by Mapusa police in connection with a road accident at Dhuler, Mapusa, which left a scooter rider seriously injured earlier this month.
According to police, the complaint was lodged by Stanistaus Dennis Martins, a resident of Madel, Thivim, Bardez. The incident reportedly occurred on May 9 at around 11 am near the Agriculture Department at Dhuler.
Police said the accused, identified as Maruti Ganesh Acharya of Hatkanangale in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, was driving a goods carrier truck when the accident took place. Investigators stated that the truck was allegedly being brought onto the main road from a roadside premises towards Dhuler without proper caution.
During the manoeuvre, the truck allegedly collided with a scooter travelling from Dhuler towards Court Junction, Mapusa. The impact caused the scooter rider to suffer grievous injuries, while the two-wheeler was extensively damaged.
A case has been registered against the truck driver for rash and negligent driving. Further investigation is being carried out by HC Vijay Gadekar.
