COLVALE: A 59-year-old truck driver from Uttar Pradesh was found dead after allegedly dying by suicide near the Colvale–Karaswada service road on Sunday evening.
According to police, information was received at around 6.46 pm on March 1 from Robot-16 staff that a man had hanged himself from a tree branch after climbing onto the rooftop of a vehicle carrier truck bearing registration number UP 70 FT 4301. The truck was parked on the left side of the Colvale–Karaswada service road opposite Om Sai Restaurant.
Upon reaching the spot, police found the deceased identified as Pappu Singh, son of Bharat Singh, aged 59 years, a resident of Gram Nagala Lekhraj Bharaul, Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. He was employed as the driver of the truck, which was loaded with Yamaha Fascino scooters meant for delivery to Pratik Motors at Duler, Mapusa.
Police said the deceased allegedly used a white gamcha (towel) as ligature material and hanged himself from a tree branch after climbing onto the roof of the truck.
A scene of unnatural death (UD) panchanama and inquest panchanama were conducted in the presence of two panch witnesses. The body has been preserved at the morgue of Goa Medical College, Bambolim, for post-mortem examination.
Police have informed the family members of the deceased. No foul play is suspected, and further investigation is in progress.
