PANAJI: Forest department today suspended two gaurds over allegations of bribery.
As per the information, the complainant businessman from Mapusa accused them of demanding a bribe from him.
Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane said that two forest guards, Sandeep Mandrekar and Prasad Teli, had been suspended following a complaint lodged by businessman Pritesh Desai of Mapusa.
Rane said that corruption in his department will not be tolerated. After following due procedure of law, any official involved in corruption would be dismissed, he said.
According to Rane, the allegation stated that both forest guards had requested a bribe in order to clear Desai’s file.
“As soon as we learned about the complaint, we suspended both of the guards while we conducted an investigation,” he added.
The minister declared, “We will not put up with any corruption within the department.”
He declared that any official discovered to have engaged in corruption would be fired from the service after the proper legal procedures were followed.
