PERNEM/SATTARI: Police in Pernem and Sattari reported two separate cases of alleged gambling activities in public places, resulting in the seizure of cash and other gambling materials.
In the first case, Sameer S/o Sadashiv Mavlankar, 40, a resident of Fakir Patta, Torxem, Pernem, was allegedly caught red-handed while conducting a gambling activity near Masjid Fakir Patta, Torxem, on September 29 at around 11.15 a.m.
According to the state complaint filed by HC 5962 Tukaram Chavan of Mopa Airport Police Station, Sameer was allegedly accepting money from members of the public and issuing paper slips as part of a game of chance in an open public place. Police seized Rs 410 in different denominations along with other gambling articles from his possession.
In a separate incident in Sattari, Santosh Yeso Gaonkar, 52, a businessman from Deulwada, Mauxi, was allegedly caught accepting gambling bets from members of the public near Saniya General Store, Mauxi, on September 30 at around 1.50 p.m.
The action followed a state complaint filed by HC 5900 Pranay Dhawaskar of Valpoi Police Station. Police seized Rs 620 and other gambling materials from the spot.
Further investigation in the Pernem case is being conducted by HC Tukaram Chavan of Mopa Airport Police Station, while the Sattari case is under investigation by HC Pranay Dhawaskar of Valpoi Police Station.
