PANAJI: Two employees were fired by the River and Navigation Department (RND) for engaging in irregularities.
According to the ruling, Purnima Sinai Bharne, an LDC, was fired from her position in the first occurrence after it was discovered that she had embezzled Rs 4.78 lakh.
Due to her involvement in misappropriation of public funds and her failure to preserve the cash book in accordance with norms and regulations, Purnima was suspended from her position in 2021.
She was requested to return to work after being reinstated in June of last year, but she refused without permission.
According to the ruling, Bharne was accused of embezzling Rs 4,78,117 in government funds.
A sailor on a two-year probationary period was the other employee let go. Yesh Agarwadekar, the dismissed sailor, was absent for more than 265 days since February of this year and for 26 days in 2023.
The ruling stated that after receiving multiple letters asking him to report for duty, he failed to do so and did not respond.
The order from Octavio Rodrigues, Captain of Ports/Head of Department, RND, reads, “By his conduct, he has failed to maintain devotion to the duty, he failed to maintain discipline in the discharge of duty thereby unbecoming of a government servant.”
