SANGUEM: A two-year-old girl died after allegedly drowning in a swimming pool at a farm in Villien Bhati, Sanguem, on October 1, 2026.
Police received a call from PHC Sanguem at around 9.30 pm, informing them that the child, a resident of Villien Bhati and originally from Jharkhand, had been brought to the health centre in an unresponsive condition following the drowning incident.
According to police, the child’s father, along with the farm supervisor and two labourers, was working in the field while the child’s mother was sitting near the swimming pool and feeding her newborn baby. The deceased child was reportedly playing near the pool.
After some time, the mother noticed that the child was missing and began searching for her. She subsequently found the child in the swimming pool and alerted her husband. The child was taken out of the pool and shifted to PHC Sanguem, where the on-duty doctor declared her brought dead.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama and sent the body to SGDH Margao for post-mortem examination. The police surgeon conducted the autopsy and certified the cause of death as “Asphyxia as a result of drowning in water.”
The body was subsequently handed over to the family for the final religious rites.
