PANAJI: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Tuesday said that the BJP Government is consistently undermining the legislative process and denying the opposition a meaningful role.
“The opposition deserves opportunities for starred LAQs. However, the current ’lot’ system disproportionately favors the ruling benches due to their larger numbers. We demand equal opportunities and will fight for our rights,” Alemao said after the BAC Meeting.
He pointed out that Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar had promised during the last BAC meeting that the monsoon session would be held for 18 days.
“However, he failed to keep his promise and also disregarded Sections 258 and 259, which stipulate three days for budget discussion and 15 days for demands, respectively,” Alemao said.
“The government cites sub-judice matters as a pretext for not providing replies 48 hours prior to sittings, which is a flawed practice that undermines the legislative system,” he said.
“I have demanded that Opposition MLAs be given sufficient time to speak in the Assembly,” he said.
