PANAJI: An unidentified male body was recovered from a creek near the sluice gate at Patto in Panaji on Tuesday, prompting police to register a case of unnatural death.
According to police, PSI Mahadev Pednekar visited the spot at around 12:04 pm after receiving information about a body floating in the Panaji Patto creek. Upon arrival, the police found the body of an unknown man, estimated to be between 40 and 50 years of age, floating in a prone position.
The officer, with assistance, retrieved the body from the creek, which falls under the jurisdiction of Panaji Police Station. A scene of occurrence panchanama was conducted in the presence of two witnesses.
The body has been shifted to the GMC morgue at Bambolim for preservation and medico-legal examination to ascertain the cause of death and establish identity.
Police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case bearing No. 25/2026. Further inquiry is in progress, and efforts are underway to identify the deceased.
