BICHOLIM: At a Bicholim high school, students taking the Class IX exam were surprised to see the answers printed next to their question paper.
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education was in hot water when a paper setter allegedly made a mistake. Ten students who were answering the Urdu paper discovered that the answers to the multiple-choice questions were posted next to the questions.
The problem was discovered ten minutes prior to the start of the tests, according to GBSHSE Chairman Bhagirath Shetye.
“The students did not receive answers because they were separated from the question paper,” he stated, adding that the Goa Board had asked the concerned teacher who created the paper for an explanation.
According to protocol, the exam papers and answer sheets must be provided to the schools in two distinct sealed envelopes, Shetye stated. He claimed that because of the exam setter’s non-disciplinary actions, this is an uncommon occurrence.
The Chairman went on to say, “We have already started the investigation and the exam setter has been asked to explain.”
Exam papers for the key subjects—three languages, mathematics, science, and social science—have been set by the Goa Board.
The Goa Board was given the responsibility of administering the test and creating the exam papers since the State implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) for Class IX for the current academic year. Additionally, two exams would be administered within an academic year under the newly implemented semester system.
Thursday marked the start of the first term exam. The question paper had 50% multiple-choice questions and 50% regular or subjective questions.
