Stating that the Goan departments on social media is negligible, the Goa IT Professionals have urged government department to make presence felt more on the social media to attract investments in the State.
In the letter to Director – Dept. of IT, CEO – Startup Promotion Cell and CEO – Investment Promotion Board the GITP has made several suggestions for improving State’s presence on cyber world.
“We are sure you will acknowledge that your department is expected to attract investments in the private sector to Goa. In the modern world, social media has become the single most effective means for reaching out to investors with minimum cost and effort. While other states have resorted to using social media aggressively, Goan departments entrusted with the task of Investment Promotion are seen severely lagging behind. It is not sufficient to launch investment policies without proactively taking them to investors,” the GITP said in the letter.
They further asked the department to operationalize the practice of promoting Goa using social media using our recommendations and guidelines listed.
“Each department should have a Twitter handle and a Facebook Page. Potential investors may be active on any of the two prominent platforms and hence it is important to be present on both. These should not be personal accounts of officers, but should be accounts representing the institution or department,” they said.
They said the departments should make a post at least once a day. The current rate of one post in a few months is way too low for a Government department.
“The posts may be among, but not limited to, the following segments:
EODB reforms
Changes made to regulatory processes for EODB should be highlighted. This improves the confidence of existing and potential investors.
Achievements of companies in Goa
Achievements of companies operating in Goa should be showcased. Potential investors will get a view of cutting edge work done in Goa.
Re-branding Goa
Key supporting infrastructure of Goa should be flagged, such as industrial estates, land banks, technical colleges, co-working spaces. This will re-brand Goa as more than a beach paradise.
Investor engagement
Goa is highly popular among startups and venture capitalists who have their establishments in other states, but prefer to work from Goa for a few months. Their social media posts carry praises for the Goan lifestyle. A positive response to them from a Government department will get them thinking of Goa as an investment destination,” they said.
GITP said that all of the above do not need any specialized skills beyond the judicious use of professional language and can be done by a group of employees from the department.
“There is no need for an independent social media marketing agency or consultant for this basic and necessary activity. However, if any technical assistance is still needed, GITP is willing to help,” they said.
