PANAJI: V M Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, emerged champions at the Goa University Inter Collegiate Powerlifting Women’s Championship 2025–26, held at the Silver Jubilee Hall on the Goa University campus. The prestigious tournament brought together top women lifters from colleges across the state and witnessed intense competition along with record breaking performances.
Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Margao, and Don Bosco College, Panjim, jointly secured the runners up position, underlining the growing standard and depth of women’s powerlifting in Goa. The championship showcased strength, discipline, and competitive spirit across multiple weight categories.
The individual highlight of the event was Rajashree Pednekar from Dempo Charities Trust’s Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, Bambolim, who was awarded the ‘Strongest Woman’ title for the 2025–26 season. Her performance also resulted in a new championship record in the up to and including 57 kg category with a total lift of 307.5 kg.
A total of three records were broken during the championship. In the up to and including 57 kg category, Rajashree Pednekar set a new benchmark with her combined lift. In the up to and including 84 kg category, Sakshi Haldankar of V M Salgaocar College of Law registered a record breaking total of 342.5 kg. In the above 84 kg category, Iram Khatri, also from V M Salgaocar College of Law, set a new record with an impressive total lift of 370 kg.
The presentation ceremony was attended by senior academic and sports officials. The chief guest for the occasion was Professor Sunder Dhuri, Registrar of Goa University. He was joined by Dr K S Rao, Assistant Professor at V M Salgaocar College of Law, Dr Manoj Hede, College Director of Physical Education and Sports at Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao, and Balachandra B Jadar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa University. The dignitaries presented trophies and medals to the winners.
The championship featured competitions across all recognised weight categories, with athletes from institutions such as Don Bosco College, Rosary College, St Xavier’s College, Shree Damodar College, Vidya Prabodhini, PES Pharmacy, MES College, Agnel Institute, and others delivering commendable performances.
The successful conduct of the championship reaffirmed Goa University’s commitment to promoting women’s sports and providing a strong competitive platform for emerging athletes in strength disciplines.
