VASCO: Vasco police station and Dabolim airport is facing a shortage of police staff, and despite the numerous crimes happening in Mormugao taluka, the issue seems to be neglected by the state government.
There is a city police station in Vasco that has got a dual-duty to combat crimes and to somehow manage staff shortages.
There is a need to immediately fill up the vacant police positions at the Vasco police station and at the Dabolim airport considering the VIP movement at the Dabolim International Airport and the crimes happening in the Vasco police station’s jurisdiction.
As per the information given by a highly placed source from the Police department on the condition of anonymity, There is a shortage of 41 police constables at Vasco Police station.
Some years ago, there were 8 Police Sub Inspector at Vasco Police station, but there are currently 3 Male PSIs and 1 lady PSI. From these 4 PSIs, 3 have already been transferred. How the police station is supposed to function smoothly, questioned the sourcesource.
Source further stated that if the police staff is getting transferred immediately, a replacement should be deployed at the police station to fill the vacuum.
When asked about the situation at the Dabolim Airport, the police source said that there is one police inspector at Dabolim airport, and unfortunately, there is no single PSI at the Dabolim airport. Police constables are also short there. Actually, there is a need to have 19 PCs at the airport considering the VIP movement, a police source added.
In a police station like Vasco, we need 8 PSIs at least to attend multiple cases. The shortage of staff increases the workload on the existing police force.
The existing police strength at Vasco police station is not even a match to the old sanctioned strength of the police station, sourcesource said.
