PORVORIM: Vehicular emission, road dust, Port related activities, biomass burning and marine aerosols are the main cause of pollution in Vasco town, reveals a study.
The final report on the particulate source apportionment study for air quality at Vasco has suggested four factors influencing levels of particulates in 5 different independent locations and 3 clusters.
The four factors are vehicular emissions, Road Dust, Port related activities and biomass burning, and Marine aerosols.
The percentage contribution of PM 10 and PM 25 ranged from 16.8% to 28.6% and 18.2% to 29.4%, respectively, at the 5 independent locations.
At the 3 clusters, the percentage contribution of PM 10 and PM 2.5 ranged from 21.4% to 29%and 20.5% to 29.6%, respectively.
The Goa State Pollution Control Board has issued directions to MPT to comply with the requirements and submit details/ Action plans.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Monday morning warned of strict action against overload transportation moving to and from the port that was causing coal pollution.
Salkar speaking to reporters after Inaugurating the works on tarring of roads, had said that he would also take the issue of overloaded coal transportation in assembly as well.
