VASCO: In a heartfelt and innovative appeal, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar addressed the community on Tuesday, highlighting a pressing issue that has been affecting the city’s beautification efforts.
Salkar’s plea came after reports from a contractor about residents stealing plants from road dividers, lakes, and other public beautification areas in Vasco.
The MLA emphasized the importance of preserving these plants, which were planted to enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal and create a positive environment. “These trees and plants are not just decorations; they are part of our city’s charm and were often provided through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives by various companies,” Salkar explained.
To address the issue, Salkar offered a unique solution: he promised to provide free plants to residents who need them, ensuring they are delivered right to their doorsteps. “If you admire these plants and want to take them home, please approach my office. I will personally ensure you receive the plants you need without having to uproot them from public spaces,” he assured.
Salkar noted that the theft of these plants, many of which are expensive and beautiful flowering varieties, has made Vasco look dull again. To prevent further incidents, CCTV cameras have been installed in key locations, and the police have been instructed to warn offenders. “We have identified two individuals involved in stealing these plants, but I prefer to appeal to them rather than publicly shaming them,” he said.
Salkar’s initiative aims to balance the city’s beautification efforts with the residents’ love for plants, ensuring that public spaces remain intact and beautiful.
