PANAJI: Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim produced a commanding performance to defeat SV’s Sridora Caculo College of Commerce and Management Studies, Mapusa by nine wickets in the Women’s University Inter Collegiate Cricket Championship 2025-26 at the Goa University Ground.
After winning the toss, Vidya Prabodhini opted to bowl first and restricted Sridora Caculo College to 113 for 4 in their allotted 15 overs. The innings was anchored by a strong knock from Ruth Awhad, who scored an impressive 70 runs off 46 balls, striking nine boundaries. Diya Pawaskar added 15 runs off 20 deliveries to support the total.
Vidya Prabodhini’s bowlers maintained good control throughout the innings. Ruchi Kumbhar and Athashree Shivarkar picked up one wicket each, conceding 16 and 20 runs respectively, while Vaishnavi Bhonsle also chipped in with a wicket.
Chasing a target of 114 runs, Vidya Prabodhini produced a steady and confident batting performance. Captain Ruchi Kumbhar led from the front with a composed knock of 47 runs from 41 balls, while Athashree Shivarkar contributed a quick 29 off 20 deliveries, hitting five boundaries. Their partnership helped the Porvorim side reach 115 for 1 in just 14.1 overs to seal a comfortable victory.
For her impactful contribution with both bat and ball, Ruchi Kumbhar was named the Best Player of the match.
In the second match of the day, Don Bosco College, Panjim posted 115 for 5 in 15 overs against Government College, Khandola after being put in to bat. During the chase, Government College reached 17 for 1 in three overs before play was interrupted, leaving the team needing 99 runs from 72 balls according to the Duckworth Lewis Stern method.
The matches were officiated by umpires Yogesh Pilgaonkar and Purushottam Mhapari, with Shreyash Bamne serving as the scorer. Vidya Prabodhini’s captain Ruchi Kumbhar and Sridora Caculo College captain Nidhi Shambhwani led their respective teams in the opening match.
