CANACONA: Assuring people that if elected he will be their voice in the Parliament, I.N.D.I.Alliance candidate Capt. Viriato Fernandes informed a Film City at Loliem will be dangerous in view of national security concerns vis-a-vis its closeness to the Indian Navy’s seabird project at neighbouring Karwar.
Capt. Viriato raised several issues including coal imports, and other projects , which locals have been protesting, and particularly mentioned forcing the Film City project in Canacona. ‘A film City in Canacona and particularly in Loliem will be very dangerous and a grave concern for national security given the closeness of Indian Navy’s Seabird project in neighbouring Karwar.
“I had dedicated and served my country for 26 years as a captain in the Indian Navy, and with the same dedication and concern I will serve Goan and Goa for the next 5 years. The Congress ticket given to me is in fact given for you, the all sorts of people of South Goa and I will be your voice in the parliament,” he said.
Viriato was speaking at the first public meeting of I.N.D.I. Alliance at Chaudi Canacona which was also attended and addressed by Congress Party Chief Amit Patkar, LoP Yuri Alemao, South-Goa Parliamentary Election in charge/MLA(Quepem )Altone D’Costa, Goia Forward Party Supremo and Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardessai, AAP leader and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, Congress Working president Girish Chodankar, amongst others.
Vijay Sardessai hit out at the BJP for its Ram-Mandir (Temple), Religion stand.
“In fact, a prepoll survey by an authentic entity has stated that Ram-Mandir is not an issue and finding no outer issues has turned Capt Viriato, INDIA candidate as a deshdrohi overnight. Don’t try to fool people by making a patriot who fought for the country a deshdrohi. A man who worked in defence cannot be a desdrohi. In fact, the Speaker has himself certified corruption in the State’s government. If BJP dares, let’s fight the election on issues, not on Ram (Gods), Temples, and Religion but to protect democracy. This BJP has no democracy in their own party fold, and that is why they want to impose their way of functioning in the country.’ Sardessai.
Venzy Viegas, MLA (Benaulim), said, BJP people with fake publications of news in papers, spreading wrong information in WhatsApp University, brainwashes the people. BJP has used 576000 cr from the Reserve fund and had virtually created a bankruptcy situation in Reserve Bank. Does BJP thinks Goa belongs to Andhbhakts??. This election is of very importance, since if we win this election 2027 will be of INDIAlliance, if not democracy will be lost forever.
Yuri Alemao, LoP stated Crony capitalist has an eye on Canacona land. Neither the government nor your MLA/Speaker has DPR on Film City, as to what benefits Goa and Canacona, particularly Goans will get. Technology is fast changing, will the film city work and survive in Canacona?? IFFI was brought to Goa with much fanfare, how many jobs do Goan get, and what are the Goan artist’s benefitted and promoted in Goa? This Brastachar Janta Party has insulted the Indian Army by making fake allegations against the Capt Viriato particularly by Prime Minister and Chief Minister.
