VASCO: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has raised objections to the running of non veg eateries serving non vegetarian dishes during the Damodar Saptah Fair at Vasco
The delegation of VHP representatives from Mormugao led by secretary Sanjiv Korgaonkar submitted a memorandum to the Mormugao Municipal Council ( MMC ) Chairperson Girish Borker demanding immediate revocation of the trade licence of stalls serving non vegetarian dishes
VHP Mormugao Taluka secretary Sanjiv Korgaonkar speaking to reporters said that MMC nust take utmost care while issuing permissions to stalls and check for the food that these eateries will be serving people
” We have seen that there are around three to four stalls that are serving non vegetarian foods at the Saptah Fair operating around the Damodar temple . In the year 2019, the MMC had passed a resolution that no stalls will be allowed to sell non vegetarian food and non vegetarian eateries will not be permitted . However there are some stalls that are selling chicken dishes openly and some devotees arriving to the Damodar Saptah have got this to our notice and we have submitted a memorandum to the MMC to immediately stop such stalls . These stalls selling non vegetarian food around the temple areas have been hurting the religious sentiments of the people , especially because this is the Holy Shravan month, when Hindus do not eat non vegetarian food. We urge the MMC to take immediate action and take utmost care while issuing permissions to the eateries at the Saptah Fair in the future” Said Korgaonkar
MMC Chairperson Girish Borker speaking to media said that a team will be sent to stop the stalls from serving non vegetarian food immediately
” The VHP has submitted a memorandum to us and pointed out that there are a few stalls serving Chicken items in the Saptah Fair. Surprisingly, I had also seen such stalls when I had gone with my wife to the fair and I had directed our sanitary inspector to immediately taken action and issue a warning to these stalls. I was informed that the stalls have stopped operating but the VHP has informed that the stalls continue to operate and this will not be allowed . The Chairperson may change but such stalls which hurt the religious sentiments during the religious Damodar Saptah fair in the holy Shravan month will not be allowed and we are going to take immediate action . We will also ensure that such things will not happen in the future and we want to send a string warning against any stall attempting to sell non vegetarian foods in the Fair. These stalls approach MMC for stalls in the name of Fast Food stalls but we were not aware that they would sell non vegetarian food items. We will initiate immediate action and ensure that no stalls are selling non vegetarian food items at the Damodar Saptah Fair ” said Borker
