PANAJI: The International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on the theme “Say yes to life and no to drugs” was celebrated by the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
The function was held at Porvorim today.
Director-General of Police Shri Jaspal Singh, IPS, who graced the function, highlighted the significance of celebrating the international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking and said that abuse and the illicit trafficking of drugs is an evil in our society.
“We can fight against the menace of drugs and reduce the drug if the whole society, particularly youths, comes forward,” he said.
The DGP said there is a need to raise awareness about the impact and negative consequences of drugs on society.
“We have to educate people about the bad effects of drugs. Skit play, theatre, counselling and drama are the powerful medium for conveying a strong message to the people,” the DGP added.
Speaking further, Singh said together, we can tackle the drug menace. Regarding the consumption of drugs, it is the responsibility of every citizen to come forward and supplement the efforts of law enforcement agencies to prevent the requirement of drugs. Society should play a significant role in prosecuting those who indulge in drugs to refrain our people from such unproductive activities which cause harm to their health.
He also urged the people to remain vigilant and inform the law enforcement agencies about the suspicious activities if they come across any in their respective areas. He said narcotic drugs have ruined several people’s lives, and Narco-terrorism can pose a danger to national security.
Narcotic Drugs will in no way meet and solve life’s problems; therefore, one should live a healthy life by keeping themselves away from the drugs. He also lauded the role of the Police in creating awareness against drug abuse and drug trafficking.
Narayan Navati, Managing Director, GHRDC, in his welcome address, informed that GHRDC was established to create adequate trained personnel for various Government Department and so far, GHRDC has provided meritorious, clerical as well as multitasking staff as per the requirement of various Government department from time to time.
The anti-drug pledge was administered to all present on occasion.
