PANAJI: Ahead of the 2022 elections, due in the next five months, Goa is developing into “political tourism” which is a welcome sign, said Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today.
He was reacting to the latest political development wherein senior Congress MLA, and ex-CM Luizinho Faleiro resigned as legislators of the State Assembly. He is set to join Trinamool Congress this evening.
Sawant said that while Goa was known for medical, spiritual, hinterland and other types of tourism, now with elections inching closer, what we see is political tourism.
“I welcome this form of tourism too, provided it helps people with their political tourism-related businesses,” he said.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the inaugural function of the Tourist Police Assistance Booth at Candolim.
CM said that that dedicated police force comprising of over 100 police personnel are trained with special skills, including soft skills, to man the tourist assistance booths.
Acting tough against erring police officers, Sawant said that a total of 15 police personnel have been suspended for misbehaving with people in the recent past.
He also said that once Goa is fully vaccinated by Oct 31, Govt will promote the state as a 100 per cent vaccinated safe zone tourist destination.
DGP Mukesh Kumar Meena said that locations have been identified for setting up series of such booths equipped with CCTV and other requisite features across the beach belt for the safety of tourists.
