CANACONA: In a wild and proud celebration of the Birth anniversary of Maratha Warrior Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a number of activities, including installing a Statue of the National war hero and unfurling of a Bhagwa Flag.
Earlier in the day, Shiv Premis and Shivjayanti Samaroha Samiti – Canacona flied – past a Bhagwa Flag atop a permanent flag Post erected at the traffic Island at Char-rasta, Canacona, as a memorable and historical event. According to Shiv Premis, the Bhagwa flag will remain fluttered all 365 days of the year as a mark of dedication and respect to the 16th Century King of the Maratha Empire.
BJP Block Canacona also garlanded a Bust of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the BJP office at the hands of MLA/Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar and teh block committee headed by Vishal Dessai.
Shortly later, Canacona MLA and GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar joined several Shiv Premi’s and, soon after hoisting a Bhagwa Flag, garlanded garland a newly installed Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the KTC Complex at Chaudi. Various other local leaders, including Congress leader Janardan Bhandari were also present, besides the councillors Hemant Naikgaunkar, Dhiraj (Pandurang), Khotigao sarpanch Anandu Dessai, Naikgaunkar, Social activists Sandesh Telekar, Pankaj Naikgaunkar, and several others.
Shivrai Samiti Poinginim held a rally to celebrate Shiv Jayanti and pay homage to the great King Shivaji Maharaj. The rally, which began from Parshuram Devalay, went up to Shri Shradhanand Vidyalay, Poinginim.
Shivjayanti Samaroha Samiti Canacona also took out a Bhovya rally which began near Maruti Mandir, Chaudi and ended at Char-Rasta.-
Shree Mallikarjun and Chetan Manju Dessai College, Delem, as a part of Shiv Jayanti celebrations, garlanded the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the college campus and felicitated Rohidas Dessai(With Dr Jiblo Naikgaunkar Memorial Award), Dr Pandurang Fugro(Sitaram Tengse Memorial Award), Jyoti Kunkolkar, Guru Komarpant(Jaysinghrao Rane Memorial Award), Indumati Mhalshi(Smt Ashalata Vabgaonkar Memorial Award) and J P Guilherme Martin (Alfred Alfonso Memorial Award) at a glittering function held in the college auditorium on Sunday.
