PANAJI: Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane today said that he directed to submit a proposal to government for granting temporary status to daily wage workers deployed for forest & wildlife management tasks.
A meeting was conducted today with PCCF – Kamal Datta IFS, Naveen Kumar-Conservator of Forest – Wildlife and Eco-Tourism, and US Forest Pooja Madkaikar to discuss issues related to daily wage workers.
It was directed to submit a proposal to the Government for granting temporary status to daily wage workers deployed for forest and wildlife management tasks.
“We also discussed that the Forest Department will provide its full support towards uplifting eco-tourism,” said Rane
He also said that he will work towards building and enhancing eco-tourism in the state of Goa.
Calling upon the government to address their plight in the Goa Legislative Assembly, daily wage workers from the Forest Department demanded a hike in salary, claiming that they continue to face job insecurity and lack basic benefits such as insurance, paid leave and travel allowances despite being in service.
