PORVORIM: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Monday launched a scathing attack on the state government, claiming that Goa is facing a deep crisis and has turned into a “crime capital.”
Reacting to Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s address to the Goa Legislative Assembly at the start of the Winter Session, Alemao said the speech failed to address the pressing issues troubling the state. He expressed disappointment that the Governor did not speak about the deteriorating law and order situation or the Birch fire tragedy.
“The address was more about self-praise than the real problems of Goa. There was no mention of the worsening law and order situation or the tragic Birch fire incident. These are issues that have shaken the confidence of people in the state,” Alemao said.
He alleged that crime and drug-related activities are on the rise, while public safety continues to be neglected. According to him, the government is presenting a rosy picture that does not match ground realities.
Alemao said the Opposition would ensure that these concerns are raised forcefully during the Assembly session. “We will bring up all these issues in the House in the interest of Goa and its people. The government must be held accountable for its failures and for not responding adequately to serious incidents like the Birch fire tragedy,” he added.
