PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today informed the House that 110 government buildings in dilapidated and unsafe conditions will be demolished.
Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas raised the issue of dilapidated conditions of government buildings and also asked if PWD is aware of it and if is there any comprehensive report and audit of the building that has been done.
“110 government buildings in dilapidated and unsafe conditions will be demolished. The rest are structurally strong and only require minor maintenance and strengthening. For example, Maquinez Palace at ESG is structurally sound.” said Sawant.
Sawant further said that the Assembly complex is safe, and a structural audit has been completed.
“Our government has made provision of Rs 600 cr for repairs & re-construction of buildings under PWD; some tenants refuse to vacate property,” said CM
Leader of Opposition (LoP) Yuri Alemao raised the issue of unsafe buildings, he said the number has increased to 214 unsafe buildings this year, it’s a very serious issue, does the government have the funds to repair buildings that are unsafe asked the government.
Sawant has said that a new bill will be introduced during the next assembly session for conducting a structural audit of government as well as private buildings which are over 30 years old.
Sawant said that 25 unsafe government buildings will be demolished to make way for new structures.
“The social welfare department is being shifted to another building,” Sawant disclosed.
