PANAJI: The Bombay High Court at Goa has adjourned to Tuesday the hearing on a petition filed by St Cruz resident Paresh Salgaonkar and five family members challenging the non-inclusion of their names in the electoral roll following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The Election Commission of India (ECI) had sought a deferment of the hearing, pointing out that the Supreme Court is already seized of matters concerning the validity of the SIR of electoral rolls in several states.
However, the High Court rejected the ECI’s request, observing that “there is no substantial challenge to the SIR or the SIR process in this petition.”
The court proceeded to hear the matter and fixed the next hearing for Tuesday at 2.30 p.m.
Salgaonkar and his family members have approached the High Court challenging the non-inclusion of their names in the electoral roll following the SIR exercise. The petition raises concerns over their exclusion from the revised electoral roll and seeks appropriate relief from the court.
The matter will now come up for further hearing on Tuesday.
