PORVORIM: A man and woman have been charged with a crime by the Porvorim police for building a house on a plot of land they allegedly obtained by forging the controversial Serula Communidade’s allotment letter.
After Serula Comunidade’s attorney Peter Martins filed a complaint alleging that the two forged the allotment certificate of Plot No. 20 in survey number 110/2 and submitted the related documents to the government department on July 25, 2022, Porvorim police have now arrested Maria MonteIro and Rajesh Verenkar.
Martins has also claimed that a house is constructed on the aforementioned lot.
Taking cognizance of the complaint PSI Sitaram Malik has begun investigating even as he has registered an FIR against the duo under sections 465, 468, 471, 420 and RW 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Dozens of cases of fraud and malfeasance in allotment of plots in the Serula Communidade have been reported over the last couple of decades parallel to the fast urbanisation of Porvorim which largely is land owned by the Comunidade.
Several such cases are being adjudicated by the courts, including the Bombay High Court at Goa under whose direction the State government’s Land Survey Department is shortly going to map all encroachments and building footprint in the area.
