PANAJI: The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Goa, in association with the Champa Devinder Dhingra Sports Trust, organised a scholarship presentation ceremony at the Black Box, Kala Academy, Panaji, on Wednesday to support promising sportspersons from the state.
A total of 40 athletes from different sporting disciplines were selected for the scholarship programme. Each athlete received financial assistance of Rs. 15,000, aimed at helping them meet expenses related to training, competitions and other sporting requirements.
The initiative is designed to encourage young athletes to continue their sporting journey and work towards achieving success at the state, national and international levels.
Secretary of Sports, Government of Goa, Santosh Sukhadeve, IAS, attended the ceremony as the chief guest, while donor Amit Anand was present as the guest of honour. Rajesh Dhingra, Trustee of the Champa Devinder Dhingra Sports Trust, and Dr Ajay R. Gaude, Director of Sports & Youth Affairs, were also present.
During the ceremony, the importance of financial and institutional support for emerging athletes was highlighted. Such assistance can allow sportspersons to focus more effectively on training and competition while pursuing long term development in their respective disciplines.
The collaboration between the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs and the Champa Devinder Dhingra Sports Trust marks an effort to strengthen Goa’s sporting ecosystem and create greater opportunities for deserving athletes.
The beneficiaries were encouraged to remain disciplined, dedicated and focused on their goals and to strive for greater achievements while representing Goa at national and international competitions.
Assistant Director of Sports & Youth Affairs Irwin Cordo welcomed the guests and later proposed the vote of thanks. Officers from DSYA and SAG, along with parents of the athletes, attended the ceremony in large numbers.
