PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant informed that 700 houses across the state were damaged due to the flooding. He also said that loss occured will be in crores of Rupees.
“Sattari, Bicholim Dharbandora Pernem Sanguem Ponda affected with flooding; loss is in crores of rupees; rough estimate shows over 700 houses damaged while 300-odd villagers evacuated & shifted to shelter homes,” said Sawant
He further said that inspected the flood-affected areas in parts of Bicoholim taluka today. He directed the officials to provide immediate assistance to those affected. 23 people in Harvalem were safely rescued.
“I inspected the areas flooded due to incessant rains in various parts of Bicholim Taluka today; 23 people in Harvalem have been rescued and brought to safety,” said CM Sawant
According to CM Sawant, as per the rough estimate, 88 houses were damaged and 8 persons were evacuated in Pernem taluka. In Bardez, 167 houses were damaged and 9 persons evacuated. 164 houses were damaged and 40 persons were evacuated in Bicholim taluka. 130 houses were damaged, 65 persons were evacuated and a bridge at Paikul was washed away in Sattari.
There was some damage in Usgao and Vaghurme in Ponda taluka as well. 18 houses damaged in Sanguem taluka and 84 people evacuated while 135 houses were damaged and 150 people were evacuated in Dharbandora taluka.
Sawant said that the cabinet has also given approval to the bill to set up mining corporation in the state to resume iron ore activities in the state.
“The bill will be taken up in the upcoming assembly session; also Goa House Board amendment bill, rectification in Goa gambling act has been approved today; further we have approved procurement of land at Curchorem & other places for railways,” he added
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Babu Kavlekar said that flooding caused damage to 832ha of agriculture land across 13 talukas. The loss occured is approximately Rs 2.55 crore loss so far.
