CANACONA: A retired 74-years old Arts teacher from Loliem and a Panchayat Secretary in Canacona were presented with Biodiversity Conservation Awards under the “Individual” and “BMC (Biodiversity Management Committee) Secretary” Category, respectively, at the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) Award ceremony on Tuesday.
GSBB recognised Balkrishna Aiya,74 from Madditolop-Loliem in appreciation for his efforts in digging a Well of 40 metres depth making steps till a depth of 10 metres for installing water pump to give access to the water which is provided to local villagers. Aiya is also credited for starting innovative grafting method and other innovations to easily separate ‘Vir’ from the Coconut leaf fronds providing livehlihood to many villagers and students.
A delighted Go9a State Biodiversity Board in appreciation of Aiya’s contirbutition in the field of Biodiversity, Ecology and Environment Conservation presented a Certificate of Special Recognition on the occasion of Goa State Biodiversity Conservation Awards 2023 on Tuesday.
