PANAJI: The 7th YMCA State Table Ranking Tennis Tournament, organized by YMCA in collaboration with the Goa Table Tennis Association, concluded at the Campal Indoor Stadium with an exhilarating series of finals matches. Aaron Farias showcased the remarkable progress he has made by claiming two titles (U17 and U19 Boys) while narrowly missing out on a third, finishing as runner-up in a fiercely contested men’s singles event.
Gargi Saikia likewise achieved a double victory, triumphing in both the Under 15 and Under 19 Girls categories while Arvind Kumar G and Samaira Soares emerged Men’s and Women’s singles winners. The opening State Table Tennis Tournament of the season witnessed an impressive turnout of participants with over 300 entries, reflecting the growing popularity of table tennis in Goa.
The U11 Boys final witnessed an intense showdown between Yug Prabhu and Ruhaan Shaikh, culminating in a thrilling 3-0 victory (11-8, 11-5, 11-6) for Yug Prabhu. Bretnia Laishram emerged victorious in a closely fought contest against Aayushi Amonkar, securing a 3-2 win (8-11, 11-6, 12-14, 11-3, 11-9) to claim the Girls U11 title. In the U13 Boys division, Chandan Caro demonstrated great resilience to defeat Dhruva Kamat in a gripping match that ended 3-2 (11-7, 11-4, 3-11, 8-11, 11-5). Ishita Colaco showcased her skills and emerged triumphant in the U13 Girls section by defeating Yogita with a 3-1 victory (11-8, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8).
The U15 Boys category witnessed a thrilling battle between Adeetya Bora and Divyansh Kashyap, with Adeetya emerging as the winner in a closely contested 3-2 encounter (11-8, 4-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5). Gargi Saikia dominated the court in the U15 Girls division, defeating Pratigya L with a convincing 3-0 scoreline (11-6, 11-4, 11-8).
The tournament’s standout player, Aaron Farias, continued to display his talent and emerged as the champion in the Boys U17 finals by securing an exciting 3-1 victory (11-7, 12-10, 10-12, 11-3) over Divyansh Kashyap. In the Girls U17 finals, Pratigya L showcased her composure to overcome Anushri Naik in a hard-fought match that ended 3-2 (11-9, 11-13, 11-8, 8-11, 13-11).
Moving on to the U19 Boys category, Aaron Farias showcased his exceptional skills once again by securing another impressive upset victory, his second successive one over top seed Anshuman Agarwal. The thrilling contest concluded with a score of 3-1 (12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 11-5), further solidifying Aaron’s ascent as a prominent player in the State. In the U19 Girls division, Gargi Saikia emerged triumphant with a 3-1 victory (11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 11-6) over Danishta Saikia.
The prestigious Women’s title was won by Samaira Soares who showcased exceptional form to defeat Urvi Surlakar in a commanding 3-0 victory (11-6, 11-9, 11-8). The highlight of the tournament was the intense battle in Men’s finals between Arvind Kumar G and Aaron Farias, with Arvind ultimately emerging as the winner in a thrilling 4-3 encounter (11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 8-11, 6-11, 11-7, 12-10).
