CANACONA: A dead and dried –up Coconut-Tree standing tall but dangerously poised to fall at any moment poses a serious threat to life and property at the busy and heavily visited Chaudi town in Canacona.
There are a few Coconut Trees standing tall alongside the NH-66 road (which passes through the commercial hub of Chaudi in Canacona), but this particular Coconut tree still standing tall is however dead since long and it’s top part containing palm leaves is completely dried-up and fallen-down over the past few months.
This Coconut tree is solely standing on its 20-25 metres tall and around 15-16 inches in diameter Trunk, with no Leaves (Fronds) pointing to the sky above and has live electricity alignments at its side, besides the stem root part is extensively used to place advertisements hoardings and placards around it.
While, the tree is just across the highway road, there shops and establishments on all its side, and movements of not only vehicles and pedestrians is very common, but several vehicles are parked around and people freely and unmindful of the danger freely moves around.
With no life in the tree, the Coconut tree stem is dangerously poised to fall any moment, cries the visitors and marketers at Chaudi.
A local blamed the Taluka Disaster Management Authority for not taking note of the prominent danger existing amidst the heavy movements of the people and even the electricity department taking no precautions even though the tall coconut tree poses equal threat to its alignment.
Moreover, with the Shigmos Floats parade is scheduled on Tuesday, people anticipate a calamity to strike if the Tall Coconut-Tree Trunk comes crashing down, as the Busy Street would be remain even more crowded throughout with floats-parade traversing the same route on Tuesday evening.
